Iraqi forces arrest perpetrators of ‘dividing leaflets’ distribution AhlulBayt News Agency – ABNA
Iraqi police announced on Friday the arrest of a group of individuals accused of distributing “division leaflets” among Arbaeen pilgrims.
AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iraqi police announced on Friday the arrest of a group of individuals accused of distributing “division leaflets” among Arbaeen pilgrims.
In a statement, Iraqi federal police said their forces arrested eight people distributing leaflets among pilgrims from Arbaeen in southwest Baghdad, Alforat News reported.
The leaflets convey extremist thoughts and divisive goals and attempt to undermine Iraq’s national unity, the statement read.
The perpetrators have been turned over to judicial authorities, police added.
In another security development linked to the Arbaeen ritual, Iraqi security forces said on Friday they had successfully foiled attacks on pilgrims in Diyala governorate, by seizing four explosive belts.
Arbaeen is commemorated each year by tens of thousands of Shia Muslims 40 days after Ashura, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia imam. Pilgrims walk to the Iraqi city of Karbala to perform mourning rites. This year, Arbaeen falls on September 27.
Various sections of the Iraqi government and military forces, including Hashd al-Chaabi, were mobilized to provide security for the event.
